2016 Mammoth Running Camp


July 18th-22nd, 2016. Mammoth Lakes, CA.  New Shady Rest Campground Sites (Coaches-144), (Girls 143, 146),  (Boys 152, 154, 134). Directions: Drive through Yosemite and take US 395 South to state 203. Go west on 203 for 2.3 miles and take the Sawmill cutoff road. Arrive at  New Shady Rest Campground. Campers will be driving to and from camp with the coaches and/or adult members of the group. Girls will share tents with girls and boys with boys. Coach Ibarra and several other male and female coaches will chaperone.


Depart from Safeway (on Constitution) in Salinas on July 18th  at 5:30 AM or from Safeway in Prunedale at 6:00 AM or from San Benito HS track at 6:45 AM (Meet at your nearest location). Return Friday, July 22nd in the late evening.


The cost is $185 per person. A $50 non-refundable deposit is required and due by July 4th in order to secure a spot in the camp. You may pay the remaining $135 the day of the trip. That covers transportation, entrance to Yosemite, food, and campsite fees. If writing a check, please make checks payable to Gustavo Ibarra. If you are an adult driver, your $185 fee will be refunded to pay for gas. Please mail all paperwork and fees to Gustavo Ibarra, 1623 Little River Dr., Salinas, CA 93906.


Please bring a sack lunch for the first day, PAYMENT, SIGNED WAIVER, TONS OF HEALTHY SNACKS FOR THE WEEK TO SHARE, some spending money, enough clothing for the week, jacket and pants, running gear, a water bottle, sleeping bag or blankets, pillow, tent (to share among campers-not everyone needs to bring one), camping gear, swim suit, towel, toiletries, medication (if a minor needs assistance in giving medication please contact Coach Ibarra), games, and a camera if you’d like (pack as lightly as possible please!).

In consideration of my acceptance into the 2016 Mammoth Running Camp, I, the undersigned, for myself, my heirs, executors and administrators hereby waive, release and discharge any and all rights and claims for damages I may have or which hereafter accrue to me against the persons and organizations affiliated with the Mammoth Running Camp and their representatives, successors, and assignees for all injuries suffered by me while traveling to and from or in any way associated with my participation in the 2016 Mammoth Running Camp.  I represent and warrant that I am physically fit and have sufficiently trained for participation in this camp. If any injuries do occur while traveling or at the camp, I give permission for emergency personnel to be contacted and emergency treatment given as needed. I agree to pay for all expenses related to such injuries and treatment.

2016 Mammoth Itinerary

BRING A REFILLABLE HARD PLASTIC WATER BOTTLE, A SACK LUNCH FOR THE FIRST DAY AND TONS OF HEALTHY SNACKS!!

You will be assigned the following days when you will be responsible for cooking and clean-up and you will share something about yourself and your running with the group at the campfire that evening!

Monday, July 18th

Eat a good breakfast before leaving! Meet at one of the first 3 locations for departure. Please be there 10-15 minutes before departure time.

5:30 AM-Depart Safeway in Salinas (Constitution and Independence)

6:00 AM-Depart Safeway in Prunedale

6:45 AM-Depart San Benito High School Track parking lot

3:00 PM-Arrive at Campground-Set up camp with the bears at 8,000 feet altitude!

Set up your camp-6 people per site and separate boys’ and girls’ camps.

4:30 PM-Scenic 3-5 mile run at Convict Lake. Ice bath in lake. Bring a towel and snack for after.

6:30 PM Dinner by coaches.

9:00 PM Campfire in groups

10:00 PM Free time

11:00 PM Lights out!

Tuesday, July 19th-

6:30 AM-Harder/Tempo 6 mile run with moderate hills. Big Smokie. Bring a snack for after.

9:00 AM-Breakfast by adults runners

10:30 AM Core/Stretching running clinic and team building by Coach Nicholson at Shady Rest Park.

12:00 PM-Lunch by adult runners

1:30 PM-Visit Mammoth Mall. Bring $ if you want something. Bring a snack for after. Bring towels and swimming gear if you want for lake.

3:00 PM-Easy 2-4 mile scenic run and swim at June Lake. Bring a towel and snack.

6:30 PM-Dinner by adult runners

7:30 PM Free time

9:00 PM Campfire in groups

10:00 PM Free time

11:00 PM Lights out!

Wednesday, July 20th-

6:30 AM- 6-7 mile downhill run- Mammoth Mountain to town or camp.

9:00 AM-Breakfast by high school boys.

10:00 AM-Take shuttle to rainbow falls. Hike and swim. Take sack lunch.

4:00 PM- Optional easy run at Camp/New Shady Rest Park

6:30 PM-Dinner by high school boys.

7:30 PM Game night at Shady Rest Park.

9:00 PM Campfire in groups

10:00 PM Free time

11:00 PM Lights out!

Thursday, July 21st-

6:30 AM- 2 mile warm-up/4 mile timed tempo/2 mile cool-down at Shady Rest Park.

8:30 AM-Breakfast by high school girls.

10:00 AM Goal setting/Training principles clinic and team building by Coach Ibarra at Shady Rest Park.

11:30 PM Prepare lunch to take to pool.

12:00 PM Leave for track/pool. Easy jog and 6x150 strides around Mammoth track and group picture. Pool running and swimming/shower at Whitmore Pool after.

3:30 PM Leave pool

4:00 PM Free time.

6:00 PM-Dinner by high school girls and adults (over 18) go out to dinner if they want to pay and go.

8:00 PM-Free time

11:00 PM Lights out!

Friday, July 22nd-

6:30 AM-Mammoth Mountain! Can you make it to the top? 5-6 miles straight into the sky! Over 11,000 feet!!! Bring water/snack for after.

9:00 AM-Leftovers breakfast by middle school kids & clean camp

11:00 AM-Leave Mammoth

6:00 PM-8:00 PM Arrive home.

10:00 PM SLEEP FOR A WEEK!
