2012 Track and Field

MBL TRACK CHAMPIONS!
Varsity Boys 26th title!
Varsity Girls 14th title!
Frosh/Soph Boys 23rd title!

The varsity boys knew they had a huge battle on their hands to defend their title and remain undefeated against an up and coming Watsonville team.  The meet didn't disappoint as both teams battled all night and went into the last event (the 4x400 relay) with Watsonville leading by 2 points and the Condors knowing they had to beat them in the relay to win the title.  The Condors soared on the last event with the team of Javier Solorio, Morgan Hoggard, Michael Resendiz, and Austin Decker holding Watsonville off to win the title by 2 points!  Upon closer inspection we found that Adam Munoz had beaten a Watsonville long jumper by a mere 1/2 inch.  Therefore, we can say the boys literally won the title by 1/2 inch!!! Special congrats to Matthew Van Lear for winning the discus, Michael Resendiz for winning the 400, and to Austin Decker for winning the pole vault.  It was an incredible 26th league crown for the boys and it was especially cool for original Condor coach Keith Condon along with our very own Roger O'Sullivan to be there to witness it.
The varsity ladies didn't want to miss out on the fun and knew they had to have a great day to beat Christopher that had handed the Condors their only loss this year.  Again, this contest went back and forth all night and came down to the 4x400 and the high jump which had not been completed.  The 4x400 team of Ida Suarez, Danielle Acuna, Sabrina Galindo, and superstar Linda Delgado held off a strong Christopher relay team to give us a slight lead in the standings as the crowd headed over to watch the thrilling high jump to decide the championship.  We had 3 jumpers in the final and Christopher had 3 jumpers in the final.  It would literally be decided there.  Long story short, their 2nd and 3rd jumpers beat our 2nd and 3rd jumpers which left both teams' top jumper to duke it out.  Taylor Blaha (in her first year of Condor track!) jumped like a veteran to win the high jump at 5 feet and to secure the title to a roaring crowd!  Quite the moment for Condor track history.  With the win the ladies also defended their title and now have 14 titles. Special congrats to Linda Delgado for her MVP night winning the 400, 800, and long jump and for anchoring the relay team that held Christopher off! Tori Teraji also shined winning the pole vault in a new school record 9 feet 9 inches!
The youngsters also wanted to be part of the fun and the frosh soph boys team led the way there with a thrilling 158-147 win over a very good Monte Vista Christian team to win their 23rd title while the frosh soph ladies fought hard and just missed their title by a mere 7 points!
All in all, it was quite the night with 3 out of the 4 teams pulling off titles with our 4th team very close.  The Condors did spread their wings!!!
Special thanks to all of the coaches (We have about 15 in track!) that give much of their time to the team.  The cool part is that most of the coaches are former Condors giving back to our school!  Leading the charge are co-head coaches Julio Trinidad (we stole him from San Benito) and Ricardo Mendoza (former Condor!) And, special special congrats to our very own JESS SOLIVEN for coming back this year to help after coaching many years in the past as he had his last league meet!  Thanks JESS!!!!  We will truly miss him along with Roger as they leave our school to greener pastures that are very much deserved!
